Nso Nso Nso by Okoli Kingsley I — Lyrics
About Nso Nso Nso
Okoli Kingsley’s "Nso Nso Nso" is a vibrant and majestic setting of the Sanctus, composed in 2021 for Nigerian Catholic choirs. Sung entirely in Igbo, it captures the profound reverence and joyful anticipation of the Eucharistic Prayer. The piece opens with a bold, unified declaration of God's holiness—addressing "Osebulụwa Chineke" (Lord God of hosts)—before breaking into a rich, polyphonic texture where the voice parts weave together to proclaim His glory.
In the choir loft, this arrangement shines during the transition into the Liturgy of the Eucharist. The repeated, overlapping "Hossana" phrases in the upper voices create a sense of heavenly celebration, lifting the congregation's hearts toward the altar. For the Benedictus section, marked here as a second verse, the lower voices (Tenors and Basses) take the lead to sing "Ọ dị ngọzi bụ onye bịara" (Blessed is he who comes), offering a warm, grounded contrast before the choir unites once more for the final, triumphant Hosannas.
