NSO NSO NSO by Ugochukwu Martin — Lyrics
About NSO NSO NSO
When the Eucharistic Prayer begins, the choir lifts the congregation into the great hymn of the angels. Ugochukwu Martin’s "Nso Nso Nso" is a bright, energetic setting of the Sanctus in Igbo, marked *Allegro* right from the start. It does not linger or drag; instead, it bounds forward with a joyful urgency, calling out the holiness of the Lord of hosts ("Oseburu-wa Chineke n'igwe ndi agha").
The beauty of this arrangement lies in its rhythmic momentum. As the text moves into "Eligwe n'ala juputara n'ebube gi" (Heaven and earth are full of your glory), the voices build toward a vibrant, repeating "Hozana." It is the kind of Mass part that wakes up the church, keeping the momentum of the liturgy alive and inviting everyone to welcome the one who comes in the name of the Lord. For a choir, it is a delight to sing—straightforward in its solfa harmony, yet full of the celebratory spirit that makes the Nigerian Catholic Mass so deeply moving.
