NWATURU CHUKWU by Ezeimoh Chibuizem A — Lyrics
About NWATURU CHUKWU
"Nwaturu Chukwu" is a reverent Igbo setting of the Agnus Dei (Lamb of God), composed by Ezeimoh Chibuizem A. In the Catholic Mass, this invocation is sung during the breaking of the bread, just before the congregation approaches the altar for Communion. It is a moment of profound humility, recognizing Christ as the sacrificial lamb who takes away the sins of the world.
The piece is structured around the traditional threefold petition. The choir repeats the gentle plea "mee anyị ebere" (have mercy on us) for the first two invocations, creating a mood of quiet repentance and grace. In the final section, the melody shifts to the concluding prayer, "nye anyị udo" (grant us peace), preparing the hearts of the faithful to receive the Eucharist. Written in accessible solfa notation, this setting is a fine example of the heartfelt, indigenous liturgical music that enriches Nigerian parish life.
