NWATURU CHUKWU by Ezeonye Chibuike 'Prime' — Lyrics
About NWATURU CHUKWU
"Nwatụrụ Chukwu" is a reverent and deeply moving setting of the Agnus Dei, sung in Igbo during the fraction rite of the Mass. Marked Adagio, the piece invites the choir and congregation into a space of quiet reflection just before Holy Communion. It is a moment of profound petition, recognizing Christ as the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
The arrangement uses a traditional harmonic feel, building a gentle but earnest plea in the repeated phrase "mee r'anyị ebere" (have mercy on us). As the voices weave together, the music carries the weight of the congregation's prayers, asking for grace and forgiveness before approaching the altar.
In the final invocation, the melody shifts beautifully to the concluding prayer, "nye anyị udo" (grant us peace). For a choir, singing this piece requires a focus on blend and a prayerful tone, allowing the simple, soaring "O!" in the soprano line to ring out as a heartfelt cry for Christ's peace to settle over the church.
