About Duo Seraphim
Spanish Renaissance composer Francisco Guerrero wrote this motet for a large choir, divided into three distinct vocal ensembles: SSAT, SATB, and SATB. The Latin text, taken from Isaiah 6:3, describes the seraphim crying out to one another, 'Holy is the Lord God of Hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory.' The motet also incorporates the text 'There are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost, and these three are one.' This rich liturgical text is set with dramatic antiphonal effects, exploiting the layered vocal forces to create a powerful and resplendent sound, a hallmark of Guerrero's sacred choral writing.
