Hodie Christus natus est

Arjan van Baest sets the traditional Latin text Hodie Christus natus est for SATB choir. This popular Christmas antiphon celebrates the birth of Christ and the appearance of the Saviour. The text speaks of angels singing on earth and archangels rejoicing, leading to the exultant cry of the righteous: Gloria in excelsis Deo. Van Baest’s motet reflects the joyous and celebratory nature of the text. It is a vibrant setting that captures the wonder and divine message of the Nativity, making it a powerful addition to liturgical services or concert programmes during the Christmas season. The piece explores the profound spiritual significance of this sacred event with clear and resonant choral writing.
