Hodie Christus natus est

Sigismondo d'India's Hodie Christus natus est is a sacred motet for SATB choir, setting a jubilant Latin text that celebrates the birth of Christ. The music reflects the joyful message of the lyrics, which speak of angelic hosts singing, archangels rejoicing, and the righteous exulting with 'Gloria in excelsis Deo'. The text, a common liturgical antiphon for Christmas, is treated with a clear and direct musical setting, typical of the motet tradition. This piece offers a powerful and uplifting choral experience, suitable for services and concerts during the Christmas season. Its direct setting of the celebratory Latin text makes it an accessible yet profoundly moving work for choirs looking to perform meaningful sacred music.
