About Hodie Christus natus est
Hodie Christus natus est paints a joyous scene of Christ's birth, with angels in heaven singing and archangels celebrating on earth. The text continues with the exultant cries of the righteous, all proclaiming 'Gloria in excelsis Deo'. Adrian Willaert, a towering figure of the Franco-Flemish school and a master of the Renaissance motet, sets this jubilant Latin text for SAAT voices. His composition captures the profound theological significance and ecstatic celebration inherent in the Christmas narrative, offering a rich and resonant musical expression of this sacred occasion.
