About Assumpta est Maria
The soaring Latin text, Assumpta est Maria, celebrating Mary's assumption into heaven, is set with joyous exuberance for SATB choir. The music opens with an immediate sense of arrival and praise, as the voices articulate the text's message of angelic rejoicing. The composer builds dynamic intensity, reflecting the awe and wonder of the heavenly scene described. The second part of the text, depicting Mary entering the ethereal chamber to be with the King of Kings, is treated with a slightly more majestic and settled character, yet the overall feeling remains one of profound spiritual elation. This is a powerful setting of a significant Marian antiphon.
