Assumpta est Maria by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina — Lyrics
About Assumpta est Maria
Palestrina's Assumpta est Maria paints a glorious scene of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary into heaven. The joyful angels sing praises and bless the Lord, accompanied by the radiant soprano voice. The text then describes Mary, the Virgin, being taken to the heavenly bridal chamber, where the King of Kings sits on a starry throne. This SATTB setting captures the solemnity and celestial joy of the moment, a fitting piece for Marian feast days. It is a superb example of Renaissance sacred polyphony, the Latin text sung with clarity and devotional feeling.
