About MIMO
When we reach the end of the Eucharistic Preface, the liturgy calls us to join the unending hymn of praise. This Yoruba setting of the Sanctus, titled "Mimo" (Holy), answers that call with a profound sense of reverence. Arranged by Rownick Enebeli, the piece anchors the choir and congregation in the majesty of God, repeating "Mímọ́ l'Olódùmarè" to declare the absolute holiness of the Almighty.
The music flows naturally from solemn adoration into joyful acclamation. After acknowledging that heaven and earth are full of God's glory, the choir lifts the energy for "Hosanna l'oke ọrun O" (Hosanna in the highest). The rhythmic phrasing here gives the voices a wonderful buoyancy, perfectly capturing the gladness of welcoming the One who comes in the name of the Lord.
Written entirely in solfa notation, this arrangement is straightforward for choirs to learn and bring into the loft. It is a culturally grounded way to sing the Sanctus, ensuring that the transition into the Consecration is both majestic and deeply felt by everyone in the pews.
