Dextera Domini by Orlando di Lasso — Lyrics
Dextera Domini fecit virtutem, dextera Domini exaltavit me.
Non moriar, sed vivam, et narrabo opera Domini.
About Dextera Domini
Sung as an offertory, Dextera Domini is a powerful motet for SATB choir by Orlando di Lasso. The Latin text draws from Psalm 118, proclaiming the mighty power of God's right hand, which has exalted the singer. The words express overcoming death and the resolve to proclaim God's mighty deeds. Lasso's setting vividly portrays the text's triumphant message, offering a stirring musical experience suitable for liturgical occasions or concert programming. His masterful handling of the four-part texture allows for both grand pronouncements and intimate reflections, making this a compelling addition to any sacred repertoire.
