About Ave sanctissima Maria
This anonymous Latin motet for ATTB voices is a profound invocation of the Virgin Mary, likely intended for services during Marian feast days or general devotion. The text, a rich tapestry of titles and petitions, addresses Mary as the most holy Mother of God, Queen of Heaven, Gate of Paradise, and Lady of the World. It emphasizes her unique status as a virgin who conceived Jesus without sin and bore the Creator and Savior. The choir is asked to implore Jesus, her beloved Son, to deliver all from evil, offering a powerful plea for intercession and protection. This devotional work provides a solemn and reverent musical setting for a significant Marian text.
