Ioannes Domin’s Ave sanctissima Maria is a sacred motet for double choir (SATTB). The Latin text is a Marian antiphon, directly addressing the Virgin Mary with a series of honorific titles: Mother of God, Queen of Heaven, Gate of Paradise, and Lady of the World. The composer explores the text’s profound reverence through a rich, polyphonic texture, allowing the words of praise and petition to resonate. The piece moves from exalted salutations to a plea for intercession, asking Mary to pray for us to her beloved Son and to deliver us from all evil.
