Heinrich Isaac's Ave Sanctissima Maria is a sacred motet for SATB choir, sung in Latin. The music opens with an interplay of voices in warm, homophonic textures that gradually become more independent. The text is a Marian antiphon, directly addressing the Virgin Mary with titles such as 'Mother of God,' 'Queen of Heaven,' and 'Mistress of the World.' It proclaims her purity and virginity, and her conception and birth of Jesus. The motet then moves into petitions for intercession, asking Mary to pray for us and deliver us from all evils, underscoring her role as mediatrix and protector.
