During the Marian season or on a feast of the Virgin Mary, choirs might offer this devotional motet by Claudin de Sermisy. Sung in Latin for ATB voices, it is a sacred setting of texts that hail the Virgin Mary with traditional titles such as Mother of God, Queen of Heaven, and Gate of Paradise. The composer then reflects on her unique purity and her conception of Jesus. The petition asks for her intercession for deliverance from all evil and for the salvation of our souls.
