Ave sanctissima Maria by Giovanni Girolamo Kapsperger — Lyrics
Ave sanctissima Maria, mater Dei, regina caeli, porta paradisi, domina mundi.
Pura singularis tu es virgo.
Tu concepisti/concepta Jesum sine peccato.
Tu peperisti creatorem et salvatorem mundi in quo [ego] non dubito.

About Ave sanctissima Maria
This devotional motet for solo soprano, Ave sanctissima Maria, opens with a flowing melodic line that gently unfolds the devotional text. Giovanni Girolamo Kapsperger sets a traditional Latin Marian text, praising the Virgin Mary as mother of God, queen of heaven, and gate of paradise. The music offers a prayer for her intercession, asking her to pray for us to her beloved son Jesus and to deliver us from all evil. The clear, direct vocal line is supported by a simple accompaniment, making this an accessible yet heartfelt setting of a profound prayer.
