MIMO L'OLUWA by CHARLES ONWUBUYA — Lyrics
About MIMO L'OLUWA
"Mímọ́ L'Oluwa" is a vibrant Yoruba setting of the Sanctus, the great hymn of praise sung just before the Eucharistic Prayer. Charles Onwubuya's arrangement captures the majesty of the heavenly chorus, opening with a bold, rhythmic declaration of God's holiness. The choir proclaims "Ọlọrun awọn ọmọ ogun" (God of hosts) with an energy that naturally lifts the congregation into the solemnity of the Mass.
The piece is structured to give both the cantors and the full choir moments to shine. In the first verse, soloists lead the text—declaring that heaven and earth are full of God's glory and blessing the one who comes in the Lord's name—while the choir provides warm, supportive responses.
As the song moves into the second verse, it breaks into a joyful, layered "Hosanna." The voice parts enter one after another, weaving together in a lively polyphonic build-up that echoes the unceasing praise of the angels. It is a wonderful choice for festive Sunday Masses, bringing a deeply indigenous and celebratory feel to the liturgy.
