About Glory to God
"Glory to God" is a vibrant, rhythmic setting of the Gloria, designed to lift the hearts of the congregation during the introductory rites of the Mass. With its bright, repetitive refrain, it is the kind of piece that quickly catches on in the pews, inviting everyone to join the choir in a unified song of praise.
The composer adapts the traditional liturgical text into a strophic format, breaking the great hymn into seven distinct verses. Each verse meditates on a different aspect of the Gloria—from praising the Heavenly King to pleading for the mercy of the Lamb of God—before anchoring back to the joyful recurring line, "We raise our voices high in praise." This predictable, steady rhythm allows the choir to lead confidently while the assembly anticipates the refrain.
This structure makes the setting especially effective for Nigerian Catholic parishes, where an extended, lively Gloria is often a highlight of Sunday worship and feast days. The final verse builds into a triumphant "Amen Alleluia," leading the choir and congregation back into one last, resounding chorus to conclude the rite.
