This sacred motet for SSATB voices is a powerful setting of a Latin text from the Requiem Mass. Orlando di Lasso, a master of Renaissance polyphony, crafts a moving plea to Christ the Good Shepherd. The text asks that Christ accept the fruits of the seeds sown in his servant Cecilia, who served him diligently like a bee. She transformed a fierce lion, her betrothed, into a gentle lamb, dedicating him to Christ. This motet would be fitting for services honouring saints, particularly those associated with music and martyrdom, or for occasions within the liturgical year where remembrance and devotion are central.
