Diffusa est gratia by Jacob Handl — Lyrics
Diffusa est gratia in labiis tuis:
propterea benedixit te Deus in aeternum.
About Diffusa est gratia
This richly harmonic motet, Diffusa est gratia, is ideal for Marian feasts, particularly during the Easter season. Its text, drawn from the Song of Songs and applied to the Virgin Mary, speaks of divine favour poured upon her lips, leading to eternal blessing. The flowing melodic lines and careful suspensions, typical of the late Renaissance style, create a sense of luminous devotion. Composed for SSATB voices, Jacob Handl’s Diffusa est gratia offers a profound devotional experience, its intricate vocal textures perfectly embodying the sacred text’s message of God’s enduring grace bestowed upon Mary.
