DAALU NNA

"Daalụ Nna" (Thank You, Father) is a vibrant Igbo praise motet composed by Martins Asogwa and Obioha Ogbonna. Bursting with rhythmic energy and joyful thanksgiving, it is a favorite for festive offertory processions and recessional marches, where the choir and congregation can truly express their gratitude to God.

The piece is structured around dynamic Alto and Tenor solos that soar above the choir's driving, polyphonic backing. The lyrics are a rich litany of praise, calling on everyone to join in thanking the Lord ("Onyegbula soro mu kelee Chineke"). As the motet builds, the soloists invoke powerful traditional titles for God, praising Him as "Odogwu n'agha" (Mighty in battle), "Okemmiri na ebu ogwe" (The great water that sweeps away logs), and "Ikuku ama n'onya" (The wind that cannot be trapped).

Originally composed for a 2019 choir festival in Abuja, this anthem captures the exuberant spirit of Nigerian Catholic choral music. Its intricate vocal layering and deep reverence for the "Eze ndi Eze" (King of Kings) make it a thrilling piece to sing, lifting the hearts of all who hear it in pure celebration.
