Confitebor by Felix Mendelssohn — Lyrics
About Confitebor
Felix Mendelssohn's Confitebor is a powerful motet setting a sacred Latin text from the Psalms. Scored for SATB choir, it would be appropriate for services in the seasons of Ordinary Time or for a feast of Christ the King. The text itself is a declaration of praise and thanksgiving to God, beginning with a vow to sing His praises before the angels and to adore Him in His holy temple. It speaks of God's mercy and truth, magnifying His holy name. The motet progresses through pleas for strength and acknowledgement of God's glory by earthly kings, before concluding with a prayer for deliverance amidst tribulation. Mendelssohn’s setting reflects the devout and often dramatic nature of the text, making it a fitting choice for moments of solemn reflection and congregational affirmation.
