About Confirma hoc Deus
This powerful motet by Orlando di Lasso is an offering of praise and supplication, intended to be sung during Mass or other liturgical services. The SSATTB voicing allows for rich harmonic textures, ideal for conveying the solemnity and grandeur of the text. Lasso sets the Latin words "Confirma hoc Deus" (Strengthen, O God, what you have wrought in us) with an urgent intensity, calling for divine stability and protection. The music builds towards the grand imagery of kings bringing gifts to God's temple in Jerusalem, culminating in a jubilant Alleluia. This is a profound and moving motet for a choir seeking substantial sacred repertoire.
