About Ave verum

This setting of the familiar Latin text Ave verum corpus offers a devotional reflection suitable for liturgical use, perhaps within Mass or Vespers. Firmin Lebel’s expressive motet is written for an ATTBB choir, creating a rich, resonant sound ideal for the sacred words. The text contemplates the sacrifice of Christ’s body, born of the Virgin Mary, and the flowing blood and water from his pierced side, praying for succour in the hour of death. The composer’s setting draws the listener into the profound mystery of the Eucharist and the plea for mercy at life’s end.
