About Ave verum

This setting of the familiar plainsong antiphon captures the profound meditation on the Blessed Sacrament inherent in the Latin text. Ludovico da Viadana's motet invites reflection on Christ's sacrifice, the flowing of blood and water from his pierced side, and the prayer for protection in the hour of death. The composer offers this devotional text in a number of vocal combinations, including TTBB, SATB, and ATTB, allowing for flexible programming of this sacred music.
