About Ave Regina
This setting of the Marian votive antiphon Ave Regina coelorum would be appropriate for any occasion in the liturgical year when the Virgin Mary is honoured. The Latin text, in its traditional form, addresses Mary as Queen of Heaven and Lady of Angels, praises her as the root and gate through which the world's light was born, and bids her rejoice as the fairest of all, asking her to pray for us to Christ. Mark Chapman sets this prayerful text for treble voices, SSSAAA, creating a bright and jubilant sound, rich in harmonic colour, to express the joyful sentiments of the words.
