About Ave Regina
The words of this motet, Ave Regina, are a Latin Marian antiphon, traditionally sung at Vespers and Compline in the Orthodox and Roman Catholic churches, and especially popular during Paschaltide. The text addresses Mary as Queen of Heaven and Lady of the Angels, hailing her as the 'root' and 'gate' from which the light of the world sprang forth. It rejoices in her glorious beauty, surpassing all others, and finally implores her to pray for us to Christ.
