About Ave Maris Stella
This setting of the ancient Marian antiphon Ave Maris Stella is for SATB choir, singing in Latin. The text is a prayer to Mary, Mother of God, who is invoked as the gate of heaven. It asks her to undo the harm brought by Eve, to free prisoners, give light to the blind, and ward off evil. The choir is asked to implore her to show herself a mother, receiving the prayers of those who became God's through her Son. The antiphon concludes by asking her, the unique and gentle Virgin, to make the singers chaste and pure, leading them to eternal joy by showing them Jesus.
