About Ave maris stella
Lorenzo Perosi's setting of the Marian antiphon Ave maris stella is a rich and devotional motet for SATB choir. The familiar Latin text, a prayer to the Virgin Mary as the 'star of the sea', invokes her as mother and eternal virgin, the gate of heaven. The choir will find opportunities to explore rich harmonies and express the pleas for peace, guidance, and purity contained within the text. From the opening salutation to the final Trinitarian doxology, Perosi crafts a moving musical setting that highlights the text's profound spiritual message.
