About Ave Maris Stella
This setting of the traditional Marian antiphon Ave Maris Stella is ideal for services during the liturgical year when the Blessed Virgin Mary is honoured. Cristian Gentilini’s sensitive SATB arrangement allows the choir to explore the rich harmonies and devotional spirit of the Latin text. The music aims to convey the prayer’s plea for guidance and protection, asking Mary, the Mother of God, to turn her merciful gaze upon the faithful, to loose the chains of the guilty, and to bring light to the blind. The composer’s approach aims to magnify the text’s expressions of hope, purity, and the ultimate joy of beholding Jesus, concluding with praise to the Trinity.
