Ave Maris Stella

This setting of the famous Marian antiphon Ave Maris Stella is suitable for services throughout the liturgical year, particularly during Marian feasts or times of reflection. The Latin text, traditionally sung in a variety of services and devotions, is here presented alongside an English translation. Pratt’s arrangement for SATB choir aims to bring out the devotional character of the words, which invoke Mary as the Star of the Sea, Mother of God, and Gate of Heaven. The choir will explore themes of peace, guidance, and salvation as they pray for Mary’s intercession, asking her to present their petitions to her son, Jesus Christ. The piece concludes with a doxology praising the Trinity.
