This setting of the Marian antiphon Alma Redemptoris Mater would suit a choir looking for devotional music appropriate for Advent and Christmastide. Jacques-Louis Battmann’s SATB arrangement offers a devout and moving rendition of the familiar Latin text, which addresses the Mother of the Redeemer as the gateway to heaven and star of the sea. The composer sets the plea for succour to a falling people, and the wonder of her divine maternity, with sensitivity.
