About Alma Redemptoris Mater
Johann Aichmiller’s setting of Alma Redemptoris Mater offers a compelling interplay between the SSB and TTB choirs. The text, a well-known Marian votive antiphon, is treated with distinct musical ideas for each choir, creating a rich textural dialogue. This sacred Latin work moves between moments of gentle lyricism and passages of greater dynamic force, reflecting the prayer’s plea for intercession. The composer’s approach allows the distinct vocal ranges to enhance the devotional character of the text, making this a powerful addition to services or concerts of sacred music.
