UBI CARITAS by Audrey Assad — Lyrics
About UBI CARITAS
"Ubi Caritas" is one of the most enduring texts in the Church's life, a gentle but profound reminder that where charity and love are found, God is truly present. This particular setting by Audrey Assad brings a quiet, contemplative beauty to the ancient Latin words. It is a piece that asks for a smooth, prayerful blend from the choir, allowing the melody to flow naturally like a chant while carrying the rich harmonies underneath.
Because of its deep connection to the Mandatum (the washing of feet) and the institution of the Eucharist, choirs most often sing this during the Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday. However, its message of unity and divine love makes it a beautiful choice for the Offertory or Communion procession at any Mass. When the voices unite on "Congregavit nos in unum Christi amor" (the love of Christ has gathered us into one), it becomes a living prayer for the congregation, drawing everyone into a moment of shared reverence and peace.
