SANCTUS (THE LIBERA) by Law. X. Okon — Lyrics
About SANCTUS (THE LIBERA)
"Sanctus (The Libera)" is a reverent Latin setting of the Holy, Holy, Holy, arranged by Law X Okon. In the choir loft, the Sanctus is one of the most profound moments of the Mass, sung just as the congregation prepares for the Eucharistic prayer. This arrangement captures that deep sense of mystery, opening with solemn, drawn-out cries of "Sanctus!" before moving into the joyful, rhythmic declarations of "Pleni sunt caeli et terra gloria."
Written out in four-part solfa notation, the score is straightforward for choirs to learn and direct. The harmony builds a wonderful sense of awe, especially as the voices rise through the "Hosanna in excelsis" and the flowing, melodic lines of the "Benedictus." Interestingly, Okon’s arrangement concludes with a final, quiet return to the word "Sanctus," leaving the church in a posture of complete adoration as the consecration begins.
