SANCTUS (THE LIBERA) by Law. X. Okon — Lyrics
About SANCTUS (THE LIBERA)
When the choir transitions into the Eucharistic Prayer, the Sanctus is our great hymn of victory and adoration. In this arrangement by Law. X. Okon, titled "Sanctus (The Libera)", we hear the traditional Latin text brought to life through a steady, reverent solfa setting. It is a piece that calls the whole congregation to join the angels in their unending hymn of praise.
Singing the Sanctus in Latin always brings a special gravity to the Mass. As the voices build from the opening "Sanctus! Sanctus! Sanctus!" to the joyful "Hosanna in excelsis," there is a profound sense of heaven and earth uniting. The harmonies here are crafted to support that upward movement, giving the sopranos a soaring melody while the lower voices anchor the "Dominus Deus Sabaoth."
Choirs will find this setting particularly fitting for solemnities and feast days. The gentle, rolling lines of the "Benedictus" offer a moment of tender welcome for Christ who comes in the name of the Lord, before the final, triumphant return to the Hosanna. It is a wonderful addition to any choir's repertoire of Mass parts, offering both dignity and deep spiritual joy.
