Holy Holy Holy

When we reach the Sanctus during the Eucharistic Prayer, the choir's role is to lift the entire congregation into the heavenly chorus. Asuelinmen Ehimanre’s "Holy Holy Holy" does exactly this, offering a majestic and deeply reverent setting of the traditional Mass text.

The piece opens with a solemn, measured declaration of God's holiness before building into a rich, layered proclamation of His glory. Ehimanre uses gentle repetition in the soprano melody—echoing phrases like "God of hosts" and "of your glory"—to give the text a sense of overflowing praise. As the piece moves into the "Hosanna in the highest," the harmony opens up beautifully, carrying that joyful acclamation right through to the Benedictus.

Written for a standard SATB choir, this Sanctus is accessible yet profound. It is a wonderful choice for Sunday Mass, helping the faithful transition from the preface into the solemn mystery of the consecration with hearts fully lifted.
