Otito

"Otito" is a vibrant and majestic Igbo setting of the Gloria, composed by Alex Ugwu. Marked to be sung "smoothly with controlled power," this piece captures the profound reverence and joyful exultation that the Gloria brings to the Catholic Mass. It serves as a soaring hymn of praise, typically sung on Sundays and feast days to echo the song of the angels.

The arrangement is structured to let the choir proclaim the text with clarity and devotion. Opening with the resounding chorus "Otito dịrị Chineke n'enu kasị enu" (Glory to God in the highest), the piece moves into four distinct verses. These verses guide the congregation through the traditional prayers of adoration, thanksgiving, and supplication—from blessing the Lord ("Anyị ajaa gị mma") to pleading for His mercy ("meere anyị ebere").
