OTITO DIRI CHINEKE by Fr. Bart C. Ezeokafor — Lyrics
About OTITO DIRI CHINEKE
"Otito Diri Chineke" is a vibrant Igbo setting of the Gloria, composed by Fr. Bart C. Ezeokafor. It captures the joyful praise of the "Glory to God in the highest" with a rhythmic, cantabile flow that brings the traditional Mass part to life. The piece opens with the grand proclamation of peace on earth to people of good will, leading into a lively refrain where the choir layers praises to God the Father.
The verses follow the familiar liturgical text, moving from adoration to the petition for mercy addressed to Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God. A special dynamic is built into the arrangement: during the verses, the soprano line takes the lead to deliver the text, while the other voice parts are instructed to sing the refrain softly and continuously underneath.
Written entirely in solfa notation, this piece is an excellent choice for festive Masses, solemnities, and Sunday liturgies where the Gloria is sung with full, joyful expression. It gives the choir loft a chance to lead the congregation in a bright, uplifting moment of worship.
