ONYE BU EZE EBUBE? by CHRIS N. OGU — Lyrics
About ONYE BU EZE EBUBE?
"Onye Bu Eze Ebube?" (Who is the King of Glory?) is a triumphant choral setting of Psalm 24, composed by Chris N. Ogu. In the Nigerian Catholic liturgy, this text is deeply associated with moments of grand arrival, making it a natural choice for Entrance processions, Palm Sunday, or the Feast of Christ the King.
The piece opens with the central question of the psalm, asking who this King of Glory might be, before answering with certainty that it is the Lord, the mighty warrior in battle. The choir then calls upon the ancient gates to lift their heads so the King may enter. As the voices weave together, the lyrics urge the listener to open their heart ("mehe obi gị nwanne m ka ọ bata") to welcome the Creator. The rhythmic, driving solfa arrangement builds a sense of awe, perfectly capturing the image of a victorious king returning to his people.
