K'ANYI JEE N'OBI EZE by Linus Okwu — Lyrics
About K'ANYI JEE N'OBI EZE
This vibrant Entrance hymn draws its inspiration directly from the joy of Psalm 122. The title, "K'ANYI JEE N'OBI EZE" (Let us go to the King's palace), sets a tone of eager procession, and the opening lines immediately echo the psalmist's gladness: "I rejoiced when I heard them say, let us go to the house of the Lord." It is a song of gathering, calling the faithful to leave their homes and step into the presence of God.
The piece unfolds as a grand invitation to worship. The lyrics guide the congregation through the physical and spiritual steps of entering the church—bringing praise, bowing down in reverence, seeking forgiveness, and preparing to receive blessings in the Holy Mass ("Na missa dị asọ Chukwu"). The verses also take a moment to marvel at God's creation, praising the Maker of the moon, the stars, the hills, and the valleys, declaring that all good things in the world belong to Him.
Musically, the arrangement captures the lively, marching momentum of a Nigerian Catholic procession. The rhythmic "ai yei ye" in the melody line is anchored by a continuous, driving response of "K'anyi jebe nuo" (Let us go) in the lower voices. This call-and-response structure creates a natural walking pace for the choir and altar servers, gathering the people with gladness as they approach the altar.
