About Mimo Mimo
"Mimo Mimo" is a vibrant Yoruba setting of the Sanctus and Benedictus, sung by the congregation and choir just before the Eucharistic Prayer. The title translates directly to "Holy, Holy," calling the faithful to join the unending hymn of the angels.
The arrangement opens with a rhythmic, grounded chorus praising God's supreme majesty, addressing Him as "Eledumare" and "Ọlọrun Ọba" (God the King). In the verses, the choir takes up the traditional liturgical text in a duet. The first verse proclaims that heaven and earth are full of His glory ("Ọrun oun aye kun f'ogo rẹ"), while the second welcomes the one who comes in the name of the Lord ("Ẹni to nbo wa l'orukọ").
For a Nigerian Catholic choir, this piece offers a deeply reverent yet culturally resonant way to enter the Consecration. The straightforward sol-fa notation and call-and-response structure make it easy for the assembly to pick up the refrain, allowing the whole church to lift their voices together in worship.
