About IBA
"Iba" is a profound Yoruba motet of adoration and communion, originally presented by St. Cecilia's Choir, UNILAG, for a 2019 film festival. The title translates to "Homage" or "Reverence," and the piece carries a deep sense of awe before the Creator. It is a song that brings the choir and congregation to their knees in worship, acknowledging God as the ultimate King and the giver of perfect gifts.
The lyrics are rich with striking poetic contrasts, praising God who commands both the blazing light ("Imole yanyan") and the deep darkness ("Okunkun pimpim"). As the voices weave together, the song asks, "What have we seen, what do we know, Father?" before declaring that there is no gift greater than what He provides. With its intricate harmonies and soaring praises to the "Alagbara ara" (God of wonders), this piece is a wonderful choice for Benediction, Communion, or any moment of deep Eucharistic adoration.
