About I will lay me down in peace
William Henry Gill composed this sacred anthem for SATB choir. The text is a setting of Psalm 4, verses 4-9, presented in both Latin and English. The psalm opens with a prayer of confidence in God's response to invocation, contrasting this with the vanity and falsehood that men chase. It continues with a call to righteousness and trust in the Lord, acknowledging God's grace in granting joy. This anthem offers a profound reflection on faith, justice, and divine solace, making it a powerful piece for choral programmers seeking substantial sacred repertoire.
