DAUKAKA!

"Daukaka ga Allah" is a vibrant Hausa setting of the Gloria, composed by Abel Obaje. Sung during the introductory rites of the Mass, this piece allows the choir and congregation to lift their voices in the ancient angelic hymn of praise. The text translates the familiar "Glory to God in the highest" into Hausa, carrying the joy and reverence of Catholic worship in Northern Nigeria.

The arrangement is written entirely in solfa notation, a familiar format that helps local choirs quickly learn and harmonize the parts. Moving through the traditional sections of the Gloria—from the opening acclamation of peace on earth to the final praise of the Holy Trinity—the melody remains rhythmic and uplifting. The verses flow naturally, allowing the choir to lead the people in adoring God the Father, pleading for the mercy of Christ the Lamb of God, and affirming the Holy Spirit.
