Conditor alme siderum

Elzear Genet composed this setting of the ancient Latin text Conditor alme siderum for SATTB voices. The text, originating from the 7th century, is a Marian antiphon traditionally sung during Advent. It addresses Christ as the creator of the stars, the eternal light of believers, and the redeemer of all, imploring him to hear the prayers of his supplicants. The lyrics describe Christ's compassion in saving the world from death, his emergence from the Virgin Mother's chaste womb like a bridegroom from his chamber, and the dominion of his power over all creation. The work concludes with a plea for preservation from the wicked, and a doxology praising Christ, the Father, and the Holy Spirit.
