About Conditor alme siderum
This arrangement of the ancient Latin hymn Conditor alme siderum is suitable for SATB choirs. Originally attributed to St. Ambrose and dating from the 7th century, the text is a beautiful and profound address to Christ as the creator and redeemer of all. It speaks of his divine power, his compassion in saving humanity, and his emergence from the Virgin Mary. The hymn concludes with a prayer for preservation from evil and a doxology to the Trinity. This setting would be appropriate during Advent, or at other points in the liturgical year when focusing on Christ's divinity and redemptive work.
