Conditor alme siderum

Michael Praetorius’s setting of Conditor alme siderum opens with a spacious, resonant texture, the SATB choir moving in mostly homophonic chords. The Latin text is a plainsong hymn from the 7th century, traditionally sung at Vespers during Advent. It addresses Christ as the creator of the stars, the eternal light, and the redeemer of all, asking him to hear the prayers of his supplicants.
