CHIDOZIE by Fr. Bart C. Ezeokafor — Lyrics
About CHIDOZIE
"Chidozie" is a deeply moving Igbo Communion hymn that speaks directly to the heart's need for spiritual restoration. The title itself is a plea for God to repair and make whole what is broken. As the choir sings the opening chorus, the words focus on the transformative power of the Eucharist, asking that the Body and Blood of Christ received at the altar will wash, cleanse, and renew the communicant. It is a perfect piece for that quiet, reflective moment during Mass when the congregation comes forward to receive Communion, carrying their own silent prayers for healing.
The verses carry a profound sense of human vulnerability. They express a genuine weariness of falling into sin and a deep longing to stand firm in God’s grace. When the cantor takes up the ad-lib section towards the end, the song beautifully recalls the great biblical stories of transformation—Mary Magdalene, Zacchaeus, Saul, and the Samaritan woman. It reminds everyone in the pews that just as Christ changed their lives and gave them new names and new beginnings, He is present in the Sacrament to do the exact same for us today.
